Sustainability policy

Our sustainability policy

SRS Green is a guide to the UK’s environmental reporting regimes, from packaging EPR to SECR.

This page says what applying sustainability to our own work means in practice, and what we do not claim.

Our footprint

Small, and mostly invisible

Everything we do happens online.

Our direct footprint is the servers that host this site and the laptops we build it on.

We have no premises of our own to heat, light or fill.

What we do about it

Four habits

We aim to keep pages light: fewer heavy scripts and media files mean less energy per visit.

We meet online by default, and travel only when meeting in person genuinely matters.

Where we have a choice of supplier, we prefer those that publish their own emissions data.

We review this policy once a year, and when anything material about how we work changes.

How we report

Below every threshold, using the standards anyway

We are well below the size at which Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting applies, and the UK’s new standards are voluntary.

We still use the UK Sustainability Reporting Standards as our reference for how a company should think about climate-related risks and emissions, so that the habits are in place long before any obligation is.

The regimes that apply by size are set out on the environmental regimes map.

Why it matters

The same regimes this site maps apply to real businesses by size.

The habits are cheaper to build before any obligation arrives.

What we will not claim

No carbon neutral, no net zero

We do not describe ourselves as carbon neutral or net zero, and we will not make an environmental claim we cannot evidence.

The rules on green claims reach marketing as much as reporting — sustainability in go-to-market explains why vague words like “eco-friendly” are the ones that get challenged.

Who owns this

One owner, specialists when needed

Our founder owns this policy.

When we need specialist input we bring it in part-time for a defined piece of work — someone found through a fractional recruitment agency — rather than hiring full-time for a need that is part-time.
